Our story so far....

Friends on their way, the lamb slowly cooking, and there I was madly rattling around in the kitchen drawer looking for that one decent knife. As my frustrations grew, I was struck with a thought. Why was it that we happily spend time and money on beautiful produce to share
with our favourite people, only to do the food a disservice by using poor quality knives?

I had no good answer. But the idea to create a truly extraordinary knife for home cooks who get excited about function, detail and beautiful objects had been firmly planted. This knife
would be honed from thoughtful design, precise craftmanship and sustainability. And it would bring real pleasure to urban-dwelling food lovers (like us) who want to own less, but own better.

The thought grew into a mildly obsessive study on the art of Japanese knifemaking. As a family, we travel often to Japan and have huge respect for the people, their history and the culture. The way in which Japanese bladesmiths relentlessly pursue precision in their craft has always seemed noble to me and kind of mystical in its single-minded focus.

I wanted to bring a bit of this artistry and respect to the home kitchen by using mindful materials and innovative product design. And so, Virelle was born – beautifully hewn, small-
batch kitchen knives shaped using premium high-carbon steel and unique Australian-made handles.

Made in limited runs for those of us who appreciate a well-balanced blade and considered, one-of-a-kind design, Virelle are Knives with Purpose for people who love cooking.

From our sunny – sometimes chaotic – Northern Beaches kitchen to yours, Virelle was forged for you to truly enjoy getting your knives out.
